Wednesday

Nikki came home around 2:30 and we are working on getting her comfortable. We have set up a bank account at Washington Mutual if you would like to make a donation to Brian and Nikki to help with expenses. Nikki has not been able to work for awhile now and Brian has missed about three weeks just recently and will not be working again for at least a month. I know they would appreciate whatever you are able to contribute.

Currently you can go to any Washington Mutual and donate cash or a check. You just need to give them Nikki's first and last name and they will look up the account number. If you are writing a check it must be written to Beverly Lynn Shull FBO Nikole Phipps. Beverly is Nikki's friend that helped set up the account. You can also mail a check to the bank or to Beverly if you do not have a bank near you. Unfortunately they do not take deposits over the phone. The address for the bank is 43333 Christy St. Fremont, CA 94538 or for Beverly Shull 2508 Grove Ct. Antioch, CA 94509.

We have printed all the comments from the blog and Nikki's mom Joann read them to her today. I know she enjoys hearing from all her friends and family. Thank you so much for all the loving support.

I am glad that Nikki was able to come home. You are all in our thoughts and hope to see you tomorrow. I know that we have not seen each other much in the later years but over the ~28 years that we have known each other we have had some good times (1984 Olympic soccer opening ceremony & games, dancing, sleepovers, our own soccer games and so much more).

Love,
Laurie

Nikki,

Lexie, Blake and I have you in our prayers. We just found a picture of you, Lexie and Blake at a Pool 4Swim Meet when the kids were little. We have such good memories from Pool 4. I think we first met you when Blake was 4 and now he's 18! You have been such a wonderful teacher and inspiration for us all. We are so glad you are surrounded by such a loving family.

I glad to hear that Nikki made it back home. You all are constantly in my thoughts and silent prayers during my busy days at work. So sorry to hear about your loss of "Storm". I know first hand how pets can bring such comfort and joy into your life. Nikki, I really miss sharing a room with you at the doll conventions, as well as all the fun times (though sometimes they were busy times) we shared. I'm trying to get time off of work to pay you a visit this ooming Friday. I know first hand how hard it is to deal with an illness in the family. Take care and God bless. May your Guardian Angel always be at your side. With all my love, your doll friend, Grace :-)

Nik -

Every now and then someone remarkable comes along and touches the life of another......just like you've touched mine. Knowing you has been a gift. Working with you was a wonderful experience...always keeping me in on everything you felt I should know. And, sitting and chatting with you through some of your frustrating times as a Manager brought a smile to my face because you always had the answer, you just needed to vent.

Your strength, confidence, conviction and honesty are characteristics which I've always felt defined your unique persona.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Brian.

Love,
Paul

Hi Nikki,
This is Lisa Bledsoe (now Nakamatsu) and I worked at Pool #4 between 1982 and 1989 (Head Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Pool Cleaner, Swim Team Coach, etc.). Actually, I worked there until I moved to Japan, where I lived for 10 years before returning with my family to to the States and Pool #4(this time as a guest, though!). I hope this rings a bell and you do not think I am so sort of stalker or something!!! Does it help if I remind you that I had you in my class?! In fact, I believe I shared you with Carrie Bellah... or was it Teresa Weinstein? I swear you lived at the pool as much as we did!! Anyway, Jason (your generation at Pool #4) emailed me to let me know how to contact you... it seems you have been busy since I talked to you last! I am glad to hear, though, you are back home. Please know you are in our prayers, and we wish you strength and peace!

Love,
Lisa, Akira, Ali and Jaemi

P.S. In case you are wondering what happened to us, we relocated 4 years ago to Cupertino once I started teaching at Homestead High (which is in Cupertino).

Hi Nikki,

I feel lucky to have gotten to know you over my relatively short time at ORTC. I will always remember your patience with me when I was new and would ask for things that I didn't have a clue about. And it was always fun to hit the 2nd floor and have a few laughs with you and your team!!!

You have touched many people and added to all our lives.

Dear Nikki,
It’s with caring and a whole lotta love that we blog you after hearing recently that you are battling cancer once again; hoping that in gathering energies from our bodies, minds and the universe beyond we can strengthen you in all ways possible.

Thinking about all the years together at Pool 4, we wondered if you realized what a wonderful gift you have been to countless kids at Pool 4, including our boys (now adults) Jason and Nick. (they are gonna hate that I mentioned them!) From you, Nikki, they learned some of the most important lessons in life-how to jump into a pool (of life), how to build self confidence to swim rather than sink (again in life!), and essentially how to “trust” in lifeguards & those around them who care enough to teach them lessons and throw an occasional life-ring. Were there any better lessons to learn?!

I knew something good was waiting to happen the first time I met you, watching our boys sitting on the edge of the pool, tightly holding on, fearful of jumping deep into the unknown. With your reassurance they eventually took the plunge, holding their breaths, coming up for air, feeling alive, energized by the water illuminating all around them. I remember Jason and Nicky’s very first of many Friday swim tests with you and the thrill of receiving their white and red American Red Cross swimming cards. Jason teaches scuba diving now and Nick is a San Diego beach lifeguard. You taught them well!!!
Through the years you welcomed and supported many creative impulses and adventures during the 4th of July parties and the end of the pool year celebrations. The lifeguard goldfish swallows in a children’s wading pool. . . . . . . . The huge blocks of ice relays in the big pool . . . . . The songs, dinners and gifts that captured the unique personalities, weakness and strengths of the lifeguards each year are forever archived on our family videos!!! Weird as they may be!

You never seemed to be afraid to color outside the lines. . . . .and your tremendous ability to relate to kids of all ages, in the water no less, are just a few of the ways you shared your life energies with all of us How awesome!

So as you turn your energies inward now to battling cancer and your changing body, know that we believe in you, and are sending tremendous strength and love your way. This is our life-ring right back at you. Keep on swimming!
All Our Love,
The Goldman-Hall Family
Debbie, Barry, Jason and Nick(y)

Nikki,

Since leaving Old Republic in 2003 I've missed you many times and regret having not kept in touch. You were the most energetic professional I've every worked with in the past two decades. While working at Orticon I always looked forward to our meetings and would go out of my way to swing by your office and check on the status of things. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Your friend,
Scott Schweitzer

Hi Nik! I heard you just got home and wanted to let you know you have always been on my mind, in my prayers and always in my heart! I was just thinking about how you would ask me to to go to McDonald's over and over again to buy a happy meal just so you could get the prize which are the dolls you collect. Took me a while to realize I didn't need to buy a happy meal...just could have bought you the doll! Of course you thought that was so funny. You are and will always be a shining star. I love you Nik. God Bless. Thank you Brain for taking such good care of her. Denise

Hi Nik,
It's me Larry again. It's so great to read about all of the family and friends you have that I never got to meet. You really had the same impact on them that you had on all of the ORTC people that know and love you so much. That speaks volumes of who you are in all circles of your life. From your Pool crowd, to your Soccer group, to the people from your Doll Club. Man!! Where did you have the time and energy to do all that stuff, that's what I never could figure out?

More memories of you keep coming up...like the Austin Powers Halloween we had in Customer Service :-) And when we went to Claudia and Percy's wedding and most of it was in Spanish there at the Mission. You had no clue what they were sayin, but you really liked the Mariachi music!

I'll keep posting and enjoying catching up with some of the old and current crew.

One last thing. Steph and I prayed at Christopher's bedside tonight for you. We all asked God to continue to lift you up and walk through this with you as he has from the first day you were born.

God bless and I will stay in touch. I always keep the photo of you and I in my office. It's the one when you toilet papered it for one of my birthdays - I moved it closer to me so I can see it and pray with you throughout the day.

Brian, you are the man my brother. I am sure you have lots of family and friends there for you right now, but we pray for your strengtt and courage as well.

God Bless,

The Caldera Family (Stephanie, Larry, Chris & Peter)
